The Hopton Attack A80 is a kind of Anti-Dutch Defence characterised by moves 1/ d4 f5 2/ Bg5. In the past we briefly analysed Dutch Defence Leningrad Variation. There are also other variations as Classical, Stonewall, St. Petersburg Variation and subvariations. Mainly the Black chooses what kind of Dutch he wants to play after 1/ d4 f5. Black plays Dutch defence because he is tired from kind of positional games after d4. The Dutch Defence is dynamic and in fact, not too often played on the TOP level and is more played on club level. White players can play variations of Anti-Dutch openings and one of them is the Hopton Attack. The Principle of this Attack is that : White chooses kind of positions which will be played. Few weeks ago there were 3 videos on ICC and GM Ronen Har-Zvi shows the main principles of positions happening in various type of subvariations of Hopton Attack. Many times it was noted the White has weak situation. When we look at the statistics we get suprised by relatively good results of White. Or better to say more than average results. Black can fight against Hopton Attack mainly with 2/ .. h7 or g6 /Leningrad style/. With h6 is an idea to capture the Bishop on g5. It looks easy and seems it can be done, but White has poisonous counter attacks with sharp follow up. White can have dangerous initiative especially in OTB, when Black cannot look to the theory books. The range of variety of positions can be seen in Theory table of Opening Report. Played as White there are games of GM Ward, Symcsak, Cebalo and others. Look how they obtained the good results.
