OpeningMaster.com is a privately owned enterprise and as all business it also started as a hobby. A hobby to play chess. The authors of the OpeningMaster database as well as other smaller unique databases which have been released under brand OM has been involved in chess for more than 30 years and are internationally recognized (ICCF) players. The main head of the project is Alexander Horvath, Senior International Master, (ELO 2497, 1. GM Norm, member of Slovak National Team who actively plays chess on various national and international correspondence tournaments (latest prize Gold Medal ICCF European Team Championship 2011) and portals. Other main contributors to OM databases are Jan Helbich, SIM and Peter Pasko, SIM (2505). Currently Opening Master is rated on Google.com as #1 when searching "largest chess database" or "correspondence chess database". This is great achievement as well as big responsibility.
Some time ago (2004), when chess databases were already around, the first OM idea was born. To create one largest collection of only quality games which had been played between humans and summarize it in a readable format (Database) which could be used with best database programs (e.g ChessBase). And why to build another database when world already knows few, one may ask? Becasue the data presented those days (as well as nowadays) are in bad quality and can actually hurt the player rather than helping him/her. Here are few examples why Opening Master was created :
- WE DO NOT HAVE multiple data / same games presented twice - duplication issue
- WE DO NOT HAVE short games (less than 8 moves) inserted in
- WE DO NOT HAVE computer games inserted in (OM Golem has computer assisted games called Centaur)
- WE DO NOT HAVE games which were played prior 1900 as we consider them as 'too romantic'
- WE DO NOT HAVE games without body (as they don't bring any analysis value add)
- WE DO provide best chess databases
Compared to other commercial products on the market, we can proudly present OM doesn't market the quantity but rather quality. We are definitly not a shopping cart. You can always reach us via our site, forum or FaceBook group. Post any question and we will answer.
