The Opening Master team is proud to present the world wide agreement with International Corrspondence Chess Federation (ICCF.com) about sponsorship of Opening Master Databases offered to ICCF tournaments.
From ICCF press relase:
ICCF and OpeningMaster have the pleasure to announce that they have signed a sponsorship agreement and Opening Master will become an official sponsor of ICCF.
Under the terms of this agreement, OpeningMaster, founded by Correspondence Chess Senior International Master Alexander Horvath, will sponsor ICCF promotional tournaments (Open class, Higher Class, Master Class) and Thematic Tournaments for the next two years 2009 and 2010, providing free subscription to each winner of these tournaments.
OpeningMaster will also sponsor the newly introduced Blitz and Rapid tournaments that will be launched in December 2008. These tournaments will be played at a faster pace than the ICCF mainstream tournament, the time control being 10 moves in 10 days for the Blitz and 10 moves in 20 days for the Rapid Tournament.
SIM Alexander Horvath presents OpeningMaster:
The OpeningMaster official launch on the web was just 2 years ago however the project of collecting data started long time before this date. The official building and collection phase if we recall back times started approximately 30 years ago when neither computers nor any electronic data were available. The books or literature which was available was very difficult to obtain. These days are gone and we operate fully on the Internet with broad band connections.
I played OTB before and but now I concentrate fully on the correspondence chess just like many our chess friends who cooperate with our OM team. The name „Opening Master“ started from an idea to learn the openings however later we realized the chess is not only about the openings but about the entire game as such. As GM J.Dorfman says, dividing games between openings, middle game and endgame does not have a practical meaning because every time it is a continuous transition between critical positions of the game. If we like something which brings value add to the player and his game we put it on the web – even if it means a link to web pages which do not exchange link with us.
Our biggest strength is in our database chess data. The current version of the Opening Master holds more than 5.5 millions of quality selected games played between 1900 and November 2008 without any duplicates. You won’t find a same body of the game twice in the database. We update this information on monthly basis and add new and new games which put even more power and advantage to players who study chess. The players are kept informed on monthly basis. This is carefully pragmatically constructed data for everyday player on basis of biggest and most wanted needs. I use the same database just like anybody else registered with Opening Master web site. One more remark: We don’t deal with chess games where engine plays against engine. We acknowledge there are many powerful chess engines out there but we still believe the chess should be played between humans. The computer analysis is a different topic which we study in depth and if players want the computer analysis can be always helpful here.
We would like to wish ICCF dynamic growth and hope with our contribution we can help the chess world to be not only for “professionals” but anybody who wish to play chess.
