Sicilian Defence - Keres Attack

KeresLet's look at Sicilian Defence - Keres Attack. The move order is : 1/ e4 c5  2/ Nf3 e6  3/ d4 cxd4  4/ Nxd4 Nf6  5/ Nc3 d6  - Scheveningen system position setup and 6/ g4 Keres Attack. It is a dangerous weapon against the Scheveningen an requires boldness, enterprising play and exactness from both side - attack and defence. The early and aggressive advance of the pawn was inaugurated into tournament practice by Panov in 1939. A bit later Paul Keres, brilliand Estonian GM, began to adopt the variation regularly and the Variation  with 6/ g4 received international recognition as the Keres Attack. If we compare 6/ g4 with other moves e.g. 6/ g3 follows with Bg2, 0-0, h3, Nd4-e2-g3 we can see 6/ g4 is more dangerous for Black kingside pawn advance in quickly style.  Certainly the g-pawn alone cannot decide the battle. There is adventure , at first sight, anyway, 6/ g4 must be supported by deep positional thought. After 6/ g4 White plans rushes g5 and tries to setup full control over the central squares. Blacks can play d5, but it must be at  accurate time. In tournament practice it is most common 6/ ...h6, 6/... a6, 6/ ... Nc6. After 6/ ... h6 - most played  7/ Rg1, Bg2, Be3, g5. Other subvariations you can see in Theory table. Opening Report was made from 2816 games /both 2300 ELO end more/. ECO code is B81 and Tree B81 was made from 5.506 full games.
